Kohl Mansion wedding venue Burlingame, CA

Have you ever walked into a place and felt instantly captivated—like everything around you is touched by warmth, story, and possibility? That’s exactly how I felt arriving at Kohl Mansion for Maggie and Kevin’s San Francisco wedding this past November. From the very first steps up the grand staircase, I could feel the inspiration building.

When I first met them, Maggie and Kevin instantly felt like old friends. They’re the kind of people who radiate kindness and make you feel right at home. Their ease with one another—and their genuine connection—made photographing their wedding an absolute joy. And the venue they chose? Simply breathtaking.

Let me walk you through their gorgeous fall wedding at Kohl Mansion

As I read over their notes, I noticed that Maggie and Kevin had a clear vision: intimate moments, genuine laughter, and meaningful images they could reminisce on for decades. They were drawn immediately to Kohl Mansion, a San Francisco treasure tucked away in Burlingame, California, famous for its historic charm, sophisticated aesthetic, and extra large lawn for events (which can be tricky to find).

Is Kohl Mansion on Your Wedding Venue Shortlist? More Reasons to Say “Yes!”

Built in 1914, Kohl Mansion is one of those rare estates that is equally approachable as it is impressive. Located just outside San Francisco, Kohl Mansion feels like stepping into another era, yet it’s full of fresh inspiration. It’s luxurious without being stuffy, grand yet warm and inviting. Think marble fireplaces, intricate woodwork, tall ceilings that let sunlight spill gently into every room, and gardens that feel like a quiet escape just minutes from the city.

The mansion’s European-style Tudor architecture, elegant brick façade, and landscaped gardens give you plenty to work with for style and design. Every corner offers something new to discover—from the sweeping grand staircase and spectacular ballroom to the lush garden maze and romantic courtyards. Honestly, I could photograph a hundred weddings here and still find new angles to fall in love with each time.

A San Francisco Wedding I’ll Never Forget

As the cherry on top, their wedding day happened upon one of those glowing San Francisco autumn afternoons when the weather was simply perfect: just enough sunshine spilling through clouds to cast everything in warm, flattering light. The gardens bloomed softly, the ivy-clad walls created lush backdrops, and the mansion’s interior provided elegant warmth. And Maggie and Kevin? They trusted me wholeheartedly, giving me the creative freedom to capture their love authentically. Their only request: few posed shots, more real connections, and lots of candid moments. As their photographer—someone who thrives on emotional storytelling—this was music to my ears.

A Hilarious “Roll with It” Moment from Their Day

When Maggie and Kevin arrived at Kohl Mansion, they realized their wedding bands were nowhere to be found. The rings had somehow vanished! Instead of panicking, though, these two just laughed, borrowed a friend’s ring, and let their love shine loudly enough to overshadow any mishap. (Don’t worry—they later found the rings, and they were thankful for insurance in case they didn’t!)

What’s New at Kohl Mansion?

Recently, the Kohl Mansion made some thoughtful updates, only further enhancing its charm and preserving its history. They’ve added new modern amenities to complement the timeless elegance couples adore—a delicate balance that makes it perfect for both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations. Their getting-ready suites, in particular, are exceptionally stunning, filled with natural light and tasteful details that elevate every photograph.

Kohl Mansion typically opens in the afternoon, but their getting-ready suites are so perfect you’ll want them available earlier. I strongly recommend adding on a few extra morning hours at the mansion for hair, makeup, champagne toasts, and leisurely pre-ceremony moments. The soft morning light, filtered through oversized windows, vintage mirrors, and plush furniture, creates images that enhance your entire wedding gallery. It’s more than worth the early start.

Considering Kohl Mansion for Your Big Day? Here’s a Booking Tip:

Kohl Mansion is affiliated with Mercy High School, so they typically book weekend weddings and sometimes limit how far in advance you can reserve due to school events. However, the venue team is amazing to work with and incredibly accommodating, so check with them directly about current availability and policies.

You can tentatively check out their Availability Calendar online at https://kohlmansion.com.

Kind Words from Maggie & Kevin

Maggie and Kevin’s thoughtful reflections afterward absolutely touched my heart. Here’s what they shared:

“Hiring Hanna was hands down the best decision we made for our wedding. Every step of the way, she was organized, reassuring, and always a step ahead, making the entire process seamless.

On the wedding day, she was not just our photographer but a steady, supportive presence. She knew exactly what needed to be done, making it easy for us to be fully present and joyful.

And then…the gallery. Absolutely speechless. Hanna has an unbelievably rare and natural talent—the way she captures emotions, light, and those in-between moments is pure magic. Every single photo tells a story, transporting us right back to the joy of that day.

Don’t skip the engagement session, either! It was the perfect way to get comfortable in front of her lens, and the photos turned out stunning. Hanna is simply the best of the best!”

(Curious about their engagement session? Take a peek at their dreamy San Francisco date-night session—it is still one of my personal favorites.)
