Al Fresco Garden Wedding at The Fig House, Los Angeles
Get ready to be blown away by Sam and Adam’s gorgeous outdoor wedding at The Fig House in Los Angeles. Trust me, it’s going to be one for the books.
These two are some of the most kind-hearted souls I’ve ever met, and being chosen to capture their big day was such an honor. From the moment their wedding planner found me on Instagram, I felt a special connection brewing. Sam was so proactive, keeping me updated with lovely Instagram DMs and mood board updates. It made my anticipation for their wedding day skyrocket.
First, let me just say that The Fig House is an absolute gem for intimate weddings. Nestled in Highland Park, this venue is perfect for couples looking to blend modern elegance with a touch of nature. And Amy Rose Weddings & Events did a fabulous job designing every detail of their special day and collaborating with the best vendor team.
I love The Fig House’s take on art-deco as a reflection of LA’s historic art scene. Juxtaposed against clean lines and sophisticated decor, the stained-glass windows exude old Hollywood glamour (my fave!), while the bold wallpaper adds a modern touch.
Meanwhile, the outdoor garden creates the perfect backdrop for outdoor ceremonies, cocktail parties, and dinners. The intentional design allows you to embrace a clean, minimalistic style or dress it up with your own signature look.
The Fig House can accommodate parties of up to 200 guests. However, its layout can easily create an intimate setting for smaller parties of under 100 guests. It’s not a full-service venue, but they do have full-service catering by Roomforty and cocktails by Pharmacie. Their dishes and cocktails are as easy on the palate as they are on the eyes.
A unique feature of The Fig House is that you can have your wedding—including the reception—outdoors under the stars, garden style. The venue’s lush greenery and chic, artist-designed interiors offer endless possibilities for stunning photographs.
Before kicking off the day with a full itinerary, we planned an intimate first look at Sam’s parents’ home in Pasadena. You never know how LA traffic will be, so as usual, I arrived early to take in the ambiance and scope out some photo locations. Since The Fig House doesn’t have a ton of natural greenery around the venue, I found a nearby park that was just perfect for capturing some nature-filled shots. Sam and Adam had their first look in the nostalgic backyard, sharing a tender moment with their adorable dog, Wally.
The lush tree-lined streets leading up to her parents’ home and the green hills nearby gave us the illusion of a forest for our pre-wedding shoot. (You’d never guess there’s a sidewalk just beyond!) Later, we ventured into an actual forest where we were greeted with moody mountain views—perfect for those dramatic, heartfelt shots.
These off-site photoshoots are a great option when getting married at smaller venues like The Fig House. You can still get a variety of background options to add stylistic elements to your wedding album. Plus, places like Sam’s parents’ picturesque neighborhood or a stylish hotel can offer fresh and exciting settings for your wedding photos.
Seeing Sam and Adam together filled my heart to the brim. Their love and kindness were palpable, and it was truly a privilege to be a part of their special day. I love that they let me take the lead in helping them get fabulous photos, and we had a blast creating magic and celebrating their most special day.
If you’re considering The Fig House for your intimate wedding, know that it’s a venue that offers elegance and the opportunity to create beautiful outdoor memories. I hope this snapshot of Sam and Adam’s day inspires you to dream big and cherish the intimate moments.
Stay tuned for more weddings and love stories!
XOXO,
Hanna
“Hanna is truly exceptional! We could not have asked for a better person to capture our wedding day. When searching for wedding photographers, we were drawn to Hanna for her immensely beautiful and versatile portfolio. We spoke over Zoom and felt immediately comfortable with her — she has such a calming presence, making us feel like we had been friends forever. We didn’t have much photography knowledge — we knew we wanted to take some shots in a natural setting like a park and wanted someone to capture color.
Hanna provided the best guidance for our photos and our day — she scouted many locations around our venue for our wedding portraits, considering the proximity and the nature setting we wanted. […] She also, months in advance, made a timeline for us to help guide the day and ensure that we had a schedule to keep everything on track. […] On our wedding day, Hanna […] made us feel so at ease, which was paramount on a day with so many heightened emotions.
We aren’t used to working with professional photographers and were initially nervous that we would feel awkward, but Hanna truly made us feel so calm, comfortable, and joyous. She made the entire experience SO fun, and multiple wedding guests commented on how kind she was to them.
Now the photos…the PHOTOS. Within a week of our wedding, Hanna sent us our sneak peeks [with] a gorgeous mix of color, black and white, and film. Our wedding day felt like such a whirlwind, and Hanna captured all the emotions and all the moments in ways that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. I can’t look at them without being transported back to that day and the specific happenings — from our first look to our first dance — and feeling so overcome with happiness. I can’t choose a favorite because they are all stunning (and all our friends and family keep telling us how much they love our photos).
I’m especially appreciative of Hanna scouting a spot near our getting-ready spot that we hadn’t seen before that looks like a forest and having us pose there for truly magical pictures. We also have some night shots and some photos from the bar area at our venue that look so editorial and glamorous that I can’t believe it’s us.
Trust me, work with Hanna, and follow her guidance. She leads with thoughtfulness and intention, and it shows. You will get to know a terrifically talented and kind person, and your wedding photos will not only be aesthetically marvelous, but you will feel like you get to relive your wedding day every time you look at them. Hanna is THE BEST, and we are so grateful to have had the honor of working with her.”
