City Wedding at Ovation in Chicago

Rachel and Austin are the type of couple that is always looking for a good time. They’re one of the sweetest couples and I had such an amazing time capturing their City Wedding at Ovation in Chicago!

Getting Ready & The First Look

Rachel and Austin got married on a super beautiful but CRAZY hot summer day in Chicago. They got ready at the Ace Hotel – a space I absolutely love. While this space is amazing, the Ace Hotel now has a new owner and name (but same amazing decor) of The Emily Hotel. It is a super neutral and fun space which makes it the perfect location for photos. They even have a gorgeous rooftop space which is actually where we did their first look. However due to the crazy heat and it literally being 100 degrees this day, we didn’t stay up there too long. After finishing their first look we headed downstairs for some more portraits.

Portraits around West Loop

As many of you may know, I love being able to scout my locations before the actual wedding day. It’s the perfect time to prep and I always suggest doing it! You’re able to see the different types of lighting and find unique and fun locations for portraits. Luckily for us, I was able to find this gorgeous wall filled with greenery. Here we snagged some photos of Rachel & Austin along with their wedding party! Since The Emily Hotel is located in West Loop in Chicago, we made our rounds to enjoy all of the beauty that is the area. West Loop is filled with so much artwork and beautiful murals, so it wasn’t difficult finding spots for their portraits. We of course had to stop at the train & get some urban industrial type vibes in front of some brick walls. Those classic city vibes, ya know?

City Wedding at Ovation in Chicago

After running throughout Chicago, we made our way to Ovation where Rachel and Austin had their ceremony and reception! The ceremony much like any other was just so beautiful and don’t even get me started on the decor! Once the ceremony was over, Rachel, Austin and I jumped right into a Rolls Royce which was actually provided by the venue! I know, I’m jumping in my seat just talking about it – how cool! The venue owner drives the car around and drops you off at really cool locations around Ovation. If you ask me, this is a MAJOR plus in my book.

Although we were enjoying our time in the luxurious Rolls Royce, Rachel and Austin didn’t want to miss too much of their celebration so we headed back to the venue for their cocktail hour. While everyone was enjoying some beverages and snacks, I stuck around to catch some details while my second photographer photographed everybody during cocktail hour. Side note: this is why SO many photographers encourage having a second photographer at your wedding. While we would love to be two places at once, it simply can’t be! Having a second photographer on your wedding day allows for all those special moments to be captured and not missing anything.

Reception & Sunset Portraits

The reception was just as special and they even used these long family style tables which I love when that’s incorporated. It’s something a bit different than the traditional reception set up and is a great way to just play around with different angles and photograph something different. During the reception, we also got to see a beautiful moment of Rachel and Austin cutting their cake (which featured their adorable pup Olive!). The entire time all I could think about what fun of a wedding group this was. Every single person who attended this wedding was there for a good time, laughing their butts off and just having a blast which is always a fun time. After finishing with cake cutting and their first dance, I snuck Rachel and Austin outside to get some sunset portraits before heading back inside to finish the night partying on the dance floor.

It was a night that was truly unforgettable. From the beautiful
