I finally get to share this phenomenal destination beach wedding with you! After clicking with Nicole and Juan over Zoom, I couldn’t wait to document their engagement and destination wedding weekend! First step: photographing their stunning engagement shoot in beautiful Chicago. They wanted their engagement photos to have the same vibe as their upcoming Cabo destination wedding at The Cape Hotel Thompson, so I suggested we rent a sailboat on Lake Michigan. Let me tell you, it was gorgeous!

Luxury Cabo, Mexico Destination Wedding

I am always down for a dreamy destination wedding! They are fun, exciting, and full of adventure! Fast forward to a little over a year after Nicole and Juan’s engagement shoot, and I was on a plane to Mexico to photograph their big day. When I work on destination weddings, couples can opt for full or partial coverage for their wedding weekend.

For this wedding weekend, we started with the rehearsal dinner, which was such a blast! The lovebirds hosted the dinner in downtown Cabo, complete with a festive mariachi band. Naturally, everyone got up and danced. Nicole was an absolute vision wearing bright pink. It was perfect! Everyone cheered, drank margaritas, and took tequila shots—I knew the wedding day would be SUCH a party!

On their wedding day, we woke up to hot, absolutely gorgeous weather. We all stayed at The Cape, a fabulously trendy Thompson Hotel, where luxurious amenities and breathtaking scenery surprise you at every turn.

Since I was shooting solo, I started with the wedidng party detail shots and then headed up to the guys for some getting-ready photos. You may notice that two gentlemen look very similar—the groom is a twin! Once everyone was ready, Nicole took some STUNNING bridal portraits, and we headed to photograph the first look. They wanted candid, disposable camera vibes, so we explored the property for eclectic photo ops.

Golden Hour Couples Portraits

Nicole and Juan’s wedding ceremony was absolutely beautiful, but if you know me, the newlywed exit after the kiss is forever my favorite! While their guests headed to cocktail hour, Nicole, Juan, and I took advantage of golden hour.

I always encourage couples to plan their ceremony around sunset, especially for destination weddings. Make sure you take advantage of the golden hour for your couples portraits. Nicole and Juan had perfect timing. We strolled the isolated private hotel beach to catch the Cabo sunset for their intimate couples photos. It was breathtaking!

As we headed into the reception, single-stem white roses seemed to float above the tablescape in jars. Their modern, minimalist design looked flawless (and super trendy heading into 2023). Once the dance floor opened, the party really started! Everyone got down on the dance floor—with the help of tequila shots! Friends and family danced the night away, making this an epic destination wedding Nicole and Juan will never forget!

The night was complete when everyone jumped into the pool together. (Yep, I got the shot by jumping in feet first with my full outfit and camera—worth it!!) This was the party of the year, and I am completely obsessed with Nicole and Juan and already dreaming about another wedding at The Cape (hint, hint).

String lights provide an added touch; you don’t need much more than a few floral or greenery arrangements with the built-in aesthetic.

A-Frame

Capacity: 130 guests

The A-Frame is not so much for receptions or weddings but rather for brunch or rehearsal dinners. This enclosed indoor space has a clean, modern look and a few windows. The A/V capabilities, screen, and projector make it an ideal space for visual presentations (perhaps at the rehearsal dinner).
