City Engagement at Finley Dunne’s Tavern

When Melissa and Travis initially inquired with me I couldn’t have been more excited. After discussing their plans for what they wanted for their engagement session, I just knew I had to work with them. This is their gorgeous city engagement at Finley Dunne’s Tavern here in Chicago.

City Engagement at Finley Dunne’s Tavern

Melissa and Travis decided they wanted to do their engagement session starting at a bar. Then after then wanted to walk around the surrounding neighborhood. When my couples first inquire with me I always like to ask them a little bit more about them as a couple. I want to learn more about what you enjoy to do together and that can help decide & brainstorm of locations to shoot at! For Melissa and Travis’s engagement, they really wanted to incorporate a place that meant something to the both of them. I absolutely love when my couples choose places that mean something to them and their relationship. It makes the session so much more unique and special which I am always wanting for my couples.

For these city engagement photos, we started off at Finley Dunne’s Tavern in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. Finley Dunne’s Tavern is actually where they used to hang out a bunch when they were dating so naturally it was the perfect spot for them to take their engagement photos. Luckily for us and our amazing planning, we got there right when the bar opened. Nobody else was there, which is always so much fun when that happens. You are really able to use the entire space and not have to worry about any other people. So I would highly recommend if you’re wanting to shoot somewhere where you KNOW a ton of people will be, start earlier in the day.

Neighborhood Portraits

After we were done at Finley’s we decided to head outside and really just explore the neighborhood. Again, I love when my couples want to be adventurous and are really down to do whatever. It helps me be creative and we all can have a fun time just exploring different areas of the city. We took some photos around the neighborhood and the train which is always a fun time. At one point I even had Melissa borrow my sunglasses for a few shots which I thought was hilarious.

North Ave Beach Engagement Photos

The second half of their engagement session was just as much fun as the first! Melissa and Travis were able to do a quick outfit change before heading over to North Ave Beach. North Ave Beach is always one of my favorite locations to shoot engagement sessions. You’re able to get those gorgeous water views along with the beautiful and epic Chicago skyline views. As the day got later, we even got to shoot some gorgeous sunset photos which I mean… who doesn’t love a good golden hour?? Notable mention that on the day of their engagement session, it was pretty cold here in Chicago. Of course like many of couples, Melissa and Travis were such troopers through it all and even were willing to dip their toes in the water!

I am so beyond happy with how these photos turned out and how fun Melissa and Travis were. It was such a blast being able to shoot their engagement session and I am even more excited to be shooting their maternity session this upcoming Spring!
