Snowy Chicago Neighborhood Engagement. Once winter hit here in Chicago, I was so excited for all of the snow to come. I’ve been in Chicago for a while but the snow had not been lining up well with when I wanted to shoot! I don’t get to shoot on very snow days often, so when I saw that it was going to storm I just knew I had to take advantage of this opportunity!

I took to my Instagram (@hannawalkowaik) and posted a small giveaway for a lucky couple to take some photos with me during this upcoming snow storm. Mary-Lauren & Andrew won my giveaway and we decided to do the photoshoot in my neighborhood, which was so much fun! We made this session happen in 1 day, which was amazing too!

We walked around my neighborhood and took some amazing snowy shots all throughout different streets. The snow looked beautiful and so did Mary-Lauren & Andrew! We really wanted to do some blue hour into night type photos to really get those snowy winter vibes going. We walked around and also made it a point to play in the snow. Obviously due to the frigid temperatures we can’t spend too much time outside. Nonetheless, we made the most out of the short time we had together and it turned out perfectly! We actually were taking breaks in between some shots so that we were able to warm back up. This is definitely a necessity when it comes to shooting during a snowy winter session.

Snowy Chicago Neighborhood Engagement

Some of my favorite photos were the ones we took in the middle of the street. The lights were glowing down the street and tire tracks marked the snow in the streets. It seriously looked like such a winter wonderland!! I feel like with the snow and the black and white shots that we did, that you could really see and FEEL the emotion behind the images, which I loved! As it started to get darker, I popped open my flash for us to get some insanely EPIC shots. I love experimenting with flash and they can be so much fun and really give us those editorial type vibes.

Overall, this session was absolutely perfect! Mary-Lauren & Andrew live in Chicago but they were planning on getting married in Colorado. It was perfect timing for to get engagement photos done in the city that they live in, which was so incredibly special to them. I honestly believe that more people should experiment with winter engagement sessions as well as night engagement photos. They can turn out insanely beautiful and a little bit different than your typical engagement photos.
